When I think about social groups in America, I don't think black or white. I don't think about cool people v.s lame people. I don't even think about college graduates v.s high school graduates. The social groups I am talking about are the poor, middle class and rich. I have a question, which one do you want to be a part of? Rich? I know you don't want to be poor. How about the middle class, you can live in the suburbs, have poor people work for you and have an entitled mindset.
Growing up poor, I thought the middle class was the way to go. I moved to the suburbs when I was 14 and I truly thought the middle class was rich. The houses were bigger, the cars were newer and the women looked better. The middle class wasn't that bad until I went to college and decided to pursue my own business venture. The moment I decided to not do what the typical suburban kid does, I was labeled as an outcast in the middle class society.
Here is how it works, every society class has its rules. In the poor class, if you try to do something positive, they look at you weird. When I moved to the suburbs, my friends from the hood looked at me like I was uppied. The suburban kids looked at me and my brother like we were broke because we were from the hood. The small percentage of people in the poor and the middle class who treated us with respect usually grew up to be something successful, which I will get back to later.
There are reasons why people stay in the same area that their parents grew up in continuing the cycle of their family bloodline. How you think is how you live. Wherever you live is a mirror of who you are as a person. When I was broke living in a hotel, I was so negative and thought hopelessly like my neighbor next door. When I lived in Plano, Texas, I felt safe and unhappy living among the same people who looked down at me when I was living in the hotels.
I couldn't fit in with the majority of social groups. I didn't care about being a customer, I wanted to be an owner. I didn't care about going to a club, I would rather go to a private party. I had no clue why my mind was like this until I worked for a congressman on his ranch. My mind was blown away from his ranch for a month. He had three houses, ten horses and loved technology like me. I ask him tips on how to get land and basically be him, he told me technology, business or politics.
I was always interested in these topics but I was a follower for the majority of my 20s. When you follow the crowd, you miss business opportunities with people who are above the crowd. The deeper I got into business, the more I started meeting fellow entrepreneurs who reminded me of the same people in the hood and the middle class who treated me with respect. All the years of not liking social media, hating the clubs and not understanding why so many people love to work made sense.
The outcast crew are the smart crew. The smart crew are the rich crew. The rich crew pays you. The outcast crew has stoners, geeks, nerds and future millionaires. That's why so many middle class families tell their kids to go to college and be normal. FUCK THAT! Would you rather be poor, middle class or rich? Most people would say rich every time but fail to realize that to be rich it's not an easy task. Anything easy is not worth doing. I am grateful for the times I spent in the hotel struggling to pay my weekly rent. The poor class taught me that I must be rich. When I moved to the suburbs, I can't forget when they look down on me for being from the hood. The middle class taught me that I must be rich. When I work for rich people, on a ranch or at a private party, I saw people who are EXACTLY like me. The nerds, geeks, business owners and city makers party together in a small room. I felt peace when I was in a mansion. I never understood why poor people hated rich people so much. Rich people are the nicest people in the world. When they talk to you, ,it's not about money or about social status, it's about who you are as a person.
I am grateful I was mentored by people who saw something in me that I didn't see. Every millionaire I work for, gave me a life lesson that helped me on my journey to wealth. Believe it or not, rich people are a small number of people who think similarly. Just like all your teachers in high school who all live in the same city making the same amount of money. Rich people think different, that's why they live different. And if you ask me, being rich is better than being middle class or being poor anyday. Thank you for reading.
